What a Fortnite name sniper is, and what it cannot do
Last updated
The phrase gets used loosely. Here is a plain explanation of what a name sniper does, and the things Fortnite Sniper deliberately does not do.
What a name sniper does
A Fortnite name sniper checks whether a display name is free and keeps looking at the names you care about. When one looks available, it notifies you so you can go and claim it before someone else notices. The speed of the alert is the point.
What Fortnite Sniper does
- Checks whether Epic would accept a display name.
- Keeps a watchlist and looks again on a timer. Free accounts are checked about once an hour.
- Sends you an email or a Discord message when a watched name looks free.
What it does not do
- It does not create accounts, and it does not hold or grab a name for you. You rename the account yourself.
- It does not get around Epic's limits. It slows down when Epic does and does not walk past CAPTCHA.
- It is not affiliated with Epic Games or Fortnite.
A name does not free up on a schedule
A taken name stays taken until its owner changes it. Nobody can promise a name will open up, so a watchlist is about being early when it does. To set one up, read how name alerts work.
Using one responsibly
Check names for your own account. Do not use checks to harass other players or to target accounts that are not yours. The acceptable use policy sets out what is allowed.
